Be a Career Adventurer

By Sharon Thomas DeLay

We feed several stray cats. Recently, a mama kitten introduced her little ones to the free-for-all that is feeding time on our front porch. One of the kittens – let’s call it Dora – has proven to be quite the brave soul. She has now snuck into our house no fewer than three times as the storm door closed. In and of itself, that’s probably not such a big deal, but when you consider the following, it makes the little explorer’s curiosity (and bravery) all the more fascinating:

We have 4 dogs, ranging in size from 8 pounds to 80 pounds. The two bigger ones could care less about the cats. The two smaller ones are a different story and they display their dislike on a daily basis through the glass door.

Dora is essentially wild and it’s not like she’s trying to get inside so we’ll pet her. When we go outside she’s one of the first to scoot.
The house is not familiar to her, so it would seem logical that she would be afraid of it.

Did I mention that we have 4 dogs inside?

What is fascinating about Dora is her persistent spirit and constant hope. Maybe these adventures into our house are in preparation for her future career as a house pet for some loving family. It made me think, though, of how important persistence and hope are for the job seeker.  Dora will continue to try to get into the house and sometimes I’m sure she will succeed. As a matter of fact, she’s already diversified and she’s trying out the neighbors. What a great attitude! Someday, somewhere, she’ll get into someone’s house and they’ll invite her
to stay.
