Senior Systems Administrator
Pflugerville ISD

POSTING NUMBER:  EX00510

LOCATION:  Technology

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Perform daily tasks to keep the PISD network functioning properly.  These duties include, but not limited to:  installing and maintaining servers and network equipment, installing and maintaining wireless network equipment, provide administration of file, print, and other services, provide user support when necessary.  Provide guidance and leadership in the system administration function.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Technical Degree or equivalent; must possess a Certified Netware Engineer ( CNE)  and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certificate.  Candidates must have experience using ZenWorks 7 to package and deploy applications and to develop and maintain the desktop environment.  Experience with SUSE Linux and Netware 6 is highly desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical lead, guidance, and leadership regarding system and network administration.
  • Install, maintain, oversee, and coordinate usage of the Wide Area Network (WAN); maintain day-to-day operations of the network; keep informed on latest developments and standards in the LAN/WAN management field.
  • Install, maintain, oversee, and coordinate usage of network servers; maintain day-to-day operation of district servers, setup users, create shares, assign rights and privileges; setup printing and backup systems on servers; assist users with server interface problems.
  • Make recommendations for improvements and determine network system requirements; plan and schedule system implementations; determine operational, technical, and support requirements for the location, installation, operation, and maintenance of servers and network systems.
  • Provide user support and training in the use of applicable hardware, software, and utilities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of computer and networking technologies and configurations.
  • Knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices.
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and AppleTalk routing protocols, routers and switches, Windows/Macintosh hardware and systems, and application software.
  • Skill in troubleshooting on network/server hardware and software.
  • Skill in Sniffer (network) and TCP/IP applications (PING, TELNET, TRACEROUTE).
  • Skill in recognizing, analyzing, and resolving network problems.
  • Skill in troubleshooting on network/server hardware and software.
  • Skill in handling effectively and efficiently multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in working in collaborative team based environments. 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  Supervise systems administrator (s).

OTHER INFORMATION:  Prolonged use of computer; position regularly requires work outside the normal work week; must maintain emotional control under stress; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 40 lbs independently and over 40 lbs with assistance.
