JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, assists patients in obtaining prescribed medications through various pharmaceutical company Patient Assistance Programs (PAP).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Explains Patient Assistance Program (PAP) procedures to patients and assist patients in accurately completing program applications and obtaining required documentation.
Submits application to providers for review and signature and forwards completed applications and related paperwork to pharmaceutical company.
Enters and maintains accurate records in PAP database, creates and maintains confidential patient files with current documents and follow-ups with patients as required.
Processes medication received from drug manufacturer, contacts patient, coordinates delivery of medication to patient through internal pharmacy.
Serves as liaison between Patient Assistance Programs, clinic staff, eligibility and outsourced pharmacies.
Performs in Certified Pharmacy Technician capacity in Class A Pharmacy as required.
Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
· Medical/pharmaceutical terms and nomenclature
· Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing systems, filing and records management systems, transcription, and other office procedures and terminology
Skill in:
· Efficiently shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information
· Knowing how to find information and identifying essential information
· Determining what needs to be recorded and accurately and completely recording information to meet all policy, procedure and regulatory requirements
· Using mathematics to solve problems
· Utilizing a personal computer and commonly-used software, e.g. Word and Excel, to enter, retrieve, and communicate data
· Communicating information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand
· Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate

Ability to:

Physical Abilities:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee constantly is required to interact with patients and explain pharmacy programs and requirements. The employee frequently is required to input information into databases. The employee occasionally is required to serve as liaison between the organization and pharmacies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School or equivalent plus minimum two years of related experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION:
Current Pharmacy Technician registration with Texas State Board of Pharmacy
Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
